Shelley

a single writer chick from Austin

Title: Namaste

Gender: Female

Age: Ageless

Location: Austin, TX

About Me:

I'm a freelance writer, entrepreneur, single mom, world traveler, yoga chick, reader and lover of life. I strive to live a conscious life. Awareness, spreading good karma.

I recently completed a book about children in India. Over 25 million Indian children live without parents…in orphanages, on the streets, trafficked or victims of child labor. My blog for this book project is at http://weightofsilence.wordpress.com.

In addition to writing, my favorite thing is to travel - I have a huge curiosity about the world and want to experience ways other people live in it. I'm not a “pampered” kind of traveler but more off the beaten path. My fondest travel memories have usually been when I was lost and discovered something unexpected. I want to get to know the world and how other people live in it. The worst fate I can think of is to die having only seen my little corner. Thankfully I have a life and enough freedom that allows me quite a bit of traveling and to combine work with travel, and I take advantage of every opportunity I have.

I'm independent, not big on conformity or tradition. A life less ordinary is my style, and am attracted to people with a similar mindset, a curiosity about the world. Most of my friends are world travelers - more in the gypsy/wanderer style - and writers, artists, some type of creative. I'm very involved in social activism and volunteering; I have lots of strong opinions but an open mind. I tend to have an irreverent, sarcastic and silly sense of humor.

I find people intriguing who have a wide range of interests and can carry on an interesting conversation, whether it's something deep and philosophical or silly and meaningless. There's nothing better than a great conversation you can get lost in for hours with someone, preferably over a nice bottle of wine. I feel people who are aware and thinking should have some sense of who they are on this journey we call life. In men, to me personality and a thinking mind are what create the most sex appeal. Quirkiness is a highly underrated trait. I'll take John Cusack over Brad Pitt any day.
